Sondra Ann Basden

  Ann Basden, 80 years old of Columbus, Ohio passed away peacefully at home on March 9, 2026.
Our beloved Sondra Ann Basden was born in Coshocton, Ohio to the late Jesse Meredith and Susie Clarke on May 30, 1945. She was the youngest of 5 siblings (Eugene, Warren, Eunice, Bessie, George). Growing up, she was very athletic; she loved playing sports such as basketball and running track. She was often referred to as a tomboy. 

In 1979 Sondra and her daughter moved to Ohio, that’s where her Mom lived in Newark, Ohio. After moving to Newark she was able to continue her government career & started working at Newark Air Force Base. In 1983 Sondra & daughter moved to Columbus, Ohio. After living in Columbus for a while she joined a card club where they played bid whist. She loved playing cards even at her house. Tunk and spades were also her favorite card games.
After making that commute from Columbus to Newark for years to work, she finally transferred to DFAS Columbus. That’s where she retired after 31 years of service in 2002.
She joined Corinthian Baptist Church 20 plus years ago & was an active dedicated member until her health started to decline & didn’t allow her to attend church service anymore. She loved Corinthian and when her health allowed her, she volunteered in the food pantry. In 2002 she bought her first home and lived there comfortably for 23 years. In her last days she lived with Michele & Robert which they provided comfort care for her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her only child: Michele Basden; surviving sister Bessie, 6 nieces and nephews and a host of great-great nieces and nephews and close friends.

Home-Going Celebration  10AM Saturday, March 21, 2026 in the Chapel of Smoot Funeral Services, 4019 E Livingston Ave., Columbus, Ohio.  Family will receive friends 9AM until time of service.  Interment, Glen Rest Memorial Estates, 8029 E Main St., Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
