Roy Lee Thompson

Roy Lee Thompson, affectionally known as “Royski Love”, was born on December 8, 1968, in Columbus, OH to Roy and Minnie (James)Thompson. Roy was a student of Columbus City Schools, he graduated from South High School, class of 1987. He was currently employed with Sterling Distribution as a Warehouse Picker.

Royski Love never met a stranger, he was loved by many, especially by his family. He shared a special bond with his mother, Minnie, he was his mother’s baby and heart. He had a great love for people and a kind heart. Always with a smile on his face, he loved to make people laugh and kept people rolling in laughter because he could find humor in the most mundane of life circumstances. What brought him the greatest joy were his children and grandchildren. They were his greatest passion. He loved spending time with them and being just PAPA to his grandbabies. He loved planning the birthday parties, grilling out, shooting pool with his friends, and when anyone needed help with anything, he was that person you could count on to lend a helping hand. Whether it is helping you to move or just being a great handyman by doing projects around your house Roy was there for you. Roy had a special talent with building things and built an upper deck inside the garage on Beck Street, which became known as the “Boom Boom Room” where he hosted family and friends.

Roy Lee Thompson, age 52, passed away on November 19th, 2021. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Sam (Pearl)Coker and Hezekiah (Libby) Thompson; parents, Roy and Minnie Thompson; son, Nicholas Thompson; stepfather, LD Herring; stepmother, Mollie Johnson; stepbrother, Anthony Johnson; sister-in-law, Karen Thompson.

He is survived by his sister, Brenda Thompson; brother, Leroy Thompson; stepsisters, Rochelle Johnson and Janice Herring of Alabama; stepbrothers, Timothy Johnson, Lamark (Renee)Herring and Jermaine (Sherry) of Alabama; daughters, Nicole Thompson, Nikia Fitzgerald and Neva Fitzgerald; bonus children, Nikyla Fitzgerald, Stephanie Mikell and Stephen Mikell; grandchildren, Na’Riyah, Noelle, Dezmenn, Isaiah, Elijah, Noah, Nymier, Naomi, Terrag, Nikyi, Nehemiah, MarKaylah, Nywani,  Nicholas “Nicho" and Nymani; life companion, best friend and the mother of his children, Dwan Fitzgerald; aunt, Rosie Merida of Alabama; uncle, James (Shirley) Coker of Kentucky; nephew, Stephen Brown. Loving memories are cherished by cousins, nieces, nephews, close cousins, Eric Harvey, Roderick Dixon, Andre Dixon, Pandera Robinson and Martez Merida and special friends, Leslie Lacking, Tony Wade, Anthoney (Gump) Williams, Robert Hinton, Mark Howell, Thomas Tuff, Jermaine Crowell; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Home-going Celebration 11AM Thursday, December 2, 2021 in the Chapel of SMOOT FUNERAL SERVICES, 4019 E. Livingston Ave. Columbus, Ohio. Family will receive friends 10AM until time of service. M.L. Smoot, Director, 614-444-1GOD(463). MASKS ARE REQUIRED.
