Rev Willard McIntosh Obituary

Reverend Willard McIntosh, born April 11, 1939, in Birmingham, AL, to Jesse Willard McIntosh and Elizabeth Cook-Long, peacefully transitioned on Friday, January 26, 2024. At age 2, he moved to Chicago, IL, later residing in Columbus, OH, with his maternal grandparents, Jack and Lula Cook, after his father's passing.

Educated in the Columbus Public School system, Reverend McIntosh attended East High School and later enlisted in the United States Army in 1959. He served his country until honorably discharged on September 30, 1961, and served in the Army Reserves until 1963. Reverend McIntosh dedicated years to the United States Postal Service and retired from DCSC, known as the "Depot."  Reverend McIntosh married Edith (Fulgham) McIntosh. They had three children from that union: Eric McIntosh, Pamla McIntosh, and Willard (Angela) McIntosh. He married Venice Marie Carol (Goldsmith) McIntosh on January 29, 1971. From that union, they had four children: Tammy (Geoffrey) Barnes, Ebony Starr McIntosh, Glenn McIntosh, and Nicholas McIntosh.

Reverend Willard McIntosh accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior on Easter Sunday in 1980 at Mount Hermon Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Shellie Doughty. After joining the church, he served on several committees and ministries: Chairman of the Pulpit Search Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Trustee Board, Deacon Board, Sunday School teacher, New Members class instructor, Director of Christian Education, EUMBA Field Missionary, Catikizer for the Commission Ordination of Ministers & Deacons, Wednesday Bible Study teacher (noonday), Director of Transportation (van ministry), and Bishop’s Assistant. Accepting his call to preach in the ministry, Reverend McIntosh was later ordained in 1995 under the pastorate of Dr. Donald J. Washington. He served as Bishop Washington’s Assistant for many years.

Reverend McIntosh was a pillar in the community and served in many capacities to bring about change, including President of the Somerset Civic Association and Mifflin High School Parent Advisory Board. Many were drawn to share their innermost thoughts with him because Reverend Mac confidently kept whatever was shared between him and God- never betraying the trust of those who entrusted their vulnerability with him.

Preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jack and Lula Cook; paternal grandparents, Samuel and Kissiah McIntosh; mother, Elizabeth Cook Long; father, Jesse Willard McIntosh, and brother, Kenneth Long.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 53 years, Venice McIntosh and his children. Grandchildren Geoffrey L. Barnes II, Monique (Billy) Hazellief of Clearwater, FL, Jasmine Barnes, Andy McAllister, Faith Moore, Tyler McIntosh, Lorenzo Robinson, Niealah McIntosh, Jace McIntosh, and Cairo Gates and nine great-grandchildren. Sisters Barbara Pullen, Debra Long, and Denise Fraim. Nephews Mark McIntosh, Eric McIntosh, and Darian Smith. Niece Keesha Long.

Reverend Willard McIntosh, a dedicated laborer in God’s vineyard, believed that love should be embraced and shared in actions and deeds. He was affectionately known as Dad, Papa, Paw-Paw, Uncle, Brother and Rev. Mac. He leaves an enduring legacy in the lives of his foster children, god children, grand-god children, a host of extended adopted family, and all who crossed paths with him.
