James Houchins

James Dominique (Jd) Houchins was born on October 14, 1990, in Huntington, WV, to his parents, James Edwards Houchins and Leondhi "Dawn" Houchins. He transitioned from this life to be with the Lord on December 13, 2025.

James acquired his formal education through Briggs High School. After completing school, he attended The University of Toledo. He gained employment in brick masonry with Buckner and Sons and later went on to become a licensed electrician with Union Local 91.

Jd enjoyed spending time with family, especially his daughters, riding his skateboard, and living life in his own unique way.

James was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lottie Figg and Kermit Figg Sr.; paternal grandparents, Edith Ross and James Edwards Sr Houchins; brother Justin Houchins; uncle Alpheus Figg; aunts Phillis Penn and Janice Ross; and nephew Jaeson Hill.

Family left to cherish his memory include his loving mother and father, James & Leondhi "Dawn "Houchins; his children, McKenzie Juniper & Nova Tigner; Sisters Kizma & Alicia Simpkins; Leah & Travis Houchins; Champagne Houchins, Jabri Houchins, and Alexander Houchins; Danelle Brooks; cousin/brother Semaj Figg; and best friend Jamez Russell-Mays. 

Also left to honor his memory are his aunts and uncles: Rebecca Collins of Toledo; Michael & Mark Figg of Huntington, WV; Heather Figg of Huntington; Robin & Terry Ewan’s of Columbus, Ohio; Melissa Figg of Columbus, Ohio; Cathy Ross of Columbus; and Sidney & Sharee of Huntington, WV. He is also remembered by his special nieces, Jaeonna Houchins, Jaemya, and Brooklyn Hill, along with a host of family and friends and special friend Harlie Tigner.

Jd will truly be missed.

Services will be held on Saturday, December 27th, at Smoot Funeral Services Chapel. 4019 E. Livingston Ave.

Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, followed by a Celebration of Life from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
