Frances Viola Donaldson

Frances Viola Donaldson departed this life on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at her home in Columbus, Ohio. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on May 23, 1937, to the late Frank Hamilton and Emma (Woods) Hamilton Love. Frances attended East High School and was excited to become a wife and mother. After having five children, she attempted to attend barber college. At the time, women were not allowed to become barbers. Therefore, she became a cosmetologist. Frances had an exciting career: she was a member to the Cultrates Cosmetology Club in which she won many first-place trophies in hair contests. She was the shop manager for both the Four Jays and Touch of Class Beauty Salons. Frances attended college, later she became an instructor for Da’Nor Beauty Academy, a black beauty school, and the first black instructor for The Ohio State Cosmetology College, both in Columbus, Ohio.Frances was a Technician for Johnson Products Company and traveled all other the country. She demonstrated how to use the hair products to other hair professtionals. At one time she worked for the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) in Columbus, Ohio.
Grandma Frances moved from Columbus, Ohio to lived and worked as a cosmetologist in Atlanta, Georgia and Los Angeles, California. She was an excellent cook and baker, who enjoyed entertai ning people, modeling, sewing, and traveling. She was the founder and president of the Chrisma Unlimited Models, a 501(c)3 organization that raised funds for organizations all over Ohio. Frances enjoyed being active with the Central Community House Seniors. She loved working in her church. She joined Metropolitan Baptist Church in the ‘60s’ that later became New Faith Baptist Church of Christ in Columbus, Ohio.  Life Celebration 3PM Friday, May 17, 2024 at New Faith Baptist Church, 955 Oak St.  Family will receive friends 2PM until time of service.  Arrangements entrusted to SMOOT FUNERAL SERVICES, 4019 E Livingston Ave., Columbus, Ohio 614-444-1463.
