Ernest William Stewart, Jr. went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 31, 2025. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on March 11, 1941 to Franzetta Stewart and Ernest Stewart, Sr. He passed away at the age of 84 in Columbus, Ohio. Heaven is rejoicing upon Ernest’s arrival.
Ernest was a graduate of North High School, Columbus, Ohio. After high school, he studied and passed his exams to receive his license as a real estate agent for the State of Ohio. He was employed by Westinghouse, Franklin County and FedEx as a mechanic. He retired after 32 years from the Metal Container Anheuser Busch Can Plant. Ernest accepted Christ at an early age and was a member Grace Baptist Church. He married his lifelong partner of sixty-five years Sherbadean Watkins, and to their union, two sons were born, Vincent and Vance Stewart. They also welcomed and raised two grandchildren, Alexa and Colin Stewart. As a result, their house became known as the place to be for all the children in the neighborhood.
Ernest was a family man who worked hard to support his family and loved spending his leisure time with family and friends. He loved fishing and often would come home from one of his fishing expeditions with enough fish for family and friends. There is nothing like fresh fish! He also enjoyed playing baseball, bowling and working in the yard. Ernest would consider himself as a social introvert, that is, he enjoyed being around people, but he gathered his strength from being alone in his private space. Consequently, he had to learn how to be gracious with living and growing with an extrovert wife whom he loved and adored for sixty-five years. This did not come easy but, both learned how to give and share in a marriage that complemented the other and modeled what a loving, stable marriage was made to be.
Ernest will be missed by many. He is preceded in death by: parents, Franzetta and Ernest Stewart, Sr.; son, Vincent Stewart; in-laws, Mattie Saunders, Daniel Watkins and Lucille Watkins; brothers, Ronald Stewart and Donald Stewart; and sisters, Rilla Stewart and Julia Stewart. He leaves to celebrate his life: wife, Sherbadean Stewart; son, Vance Stewart; grandchildren, Colin Stewart, Alexa Rae Stewart, Vance Stewart, Jr., Nickolas Stewart and Grant Stewart; brothers, Jodie Stewart and Johnathan Stewart; and numerous cousins, nephews and a host of friends.
