He is predeceased by son, Jeffrey Peaks; parents, Emmett Smith, Sr. and Emily Smith; brother, Robert Smith; sisters, Geraldine Smith Williams, Helen Anderson, and Rosetta Pegues; father-in-law, Evon Tyree Peaks; mother-in-law, Eveyn Peaks; bothers-in-law, Don K. Peaks, Curtis Peaks, Sr., Mark Peaks, Godfrey "Pepper" Peaks, Douglas Battle, James A. Armstrong IV, Don Smith, and Ernest Stauton; sisters-in-law, Gloria Peaks, Bettie Peaks, and Demetrice Cross-Battle; nephew, Rodney Cross; and neice, Yolanda Peaks-Bell.
