Davie Lee Fowlkes, 68 , affectionately known as “Big Dave” was born in Columbus, Ohio on July 12, 1953 to Mozell and Douglas Fowlkes. He transitioned from this life to be in the presence of the Lord on Saturday, August 21st, 2021.
Dave graduated from Columbus East High School in 1973. He was an amazing athlete. He played basketball, but he was a recognized all-city and all-state football player. After graduation, he went to Central State University where he also played football.
As a young boy, Dave was raised in a Christian home and attended church faithfully. He was a member of Calvary of Faith which later became My Father’s House.
Dave married Rosa Martinez and to this union the twins arrived, David and Laura. Big Dave loved his children and centered his life around them.
Dave worked at Capital Manufacturing and the T. Marzetti Company plus many other part-time gigs. Dave was a workaholic.
Dave was preceded in death by his father: Douglas Fowlkes; his son, Reginald Thorpe; and daughter, Laura Fowlkes. He leaves his life’s legacy to be cherished by his sons Donte White and David (Crystal) Fowlkes, his mother Mozell Fowlkes of Marion, Alabama, brothers Douglas (Brenda) Fowlkes of Houston, Texas, William (Margret) Fowlkes, Lawrence (Jerri) Fowlkes, Ronnie Fowlkes, Larry Fowlkes, Dennis (Janice) Fowlkes all of Columbus, Ohio and Duane Fowlkes of Marion, Alabama; a hosts of grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends
Memorial service 11AM Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at SMOOT FUNERAL SERVICES, 4019 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, Ohio, 43227. Family will receive friends 10AM until time of service.
