Christene Banks was called home to eternal rest with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 8, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus Banks, Sr., and Gladys L. (Maye); sisters Adele and Ethel, and brothers, Harvey, Johnnie, and Arthur. She was born February 17, 1946, to Rufus and Gladys Banks in Americus, Georgia. Christene attended Sumpter High School; and was a member of Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she accepted Christ at a young age. In 1962 She moved to Columbus, Ohio.
She retired from Mt. Carmel West after 45 years of service as a dietician. Christene joined Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church in 1985, where she served as pastor partner and choir member, worked in the food pantry, and was the head church cook. She loved to cook (especially sweet potato pie and cabbage).
Christene loved watching professional basketball, especially the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors. She was an avid bowler and played in several bowling leagues. She also appeared on the TV game show “Bowling for Dollars.” In addition to bowling, Christene enjoyed playing cards and traveling out of town with family and friends.
She is survived by her sister, Jewell Little; and special sister, Diane Powell; sister-in-law, Susan D. Banks; nephews, John Banks (Tampa, FL), Arthur Banks, Rufus Banks, niece; Felishia Banks-Safford (all from Ft. Myers, FL); nephews; Johnny L. (Nicole) Perry Jr., Eric (Noni) Banks, and Anthony (Trisha Staley) Little. Nieces; Joye Saunders, and Tanya Banks, all from Columbus. Special friends, Louise Wood; and Francis Johnson, and many great nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Home-going services 1PM Friday, August 23, 2024 at Corinthian Baptist Church 3161 E Fifth Ave., Columbus, Ohio. Family will receive friends 12PM until time of service.
