Charles E. Mackey, also known by his early artist name, (Chicken Foot Charlie), a lifelong resident of Columbus, OH, unexpectedly departed on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 74.
Charles is survived by his beloved children: son,, Charles H. Thomas (Tara Crim-Thomas), and two daughters, Khalika Nicole Blue and Joy Singleton.siblings: his sister, Evon Mackey; his brother, Richard Mackey (Spouse Deanna); his sister, Linda Smith; and his sister, Carol Rollins Mackey.

He is predeceased by his Parents, Bishop Henry R. Mackey & Elder Nellie R. Mackey; his brother, Lawrence H. Mackey; his brother, Edwin L. Mackey (Eddie); his brother, Jeremy Roby
Mackey, and his brother, Harold D. "Bubbie" Mackey (deceased 9/10/24)  Charles was born in Buffalo, NY, on March 2, 1950, to Henry R. Mackey and Nellie R. Brevard.
He was a proud grandfather to his son Charles’ two children, Joy’s two children, and Khalika’s two children, and a great-grandfather to Khalika’s two grandchildren. Charles’ love for his family
was a source of strength and joy. And his love for God was where his sustaining source of grace came from. Known for his artistic talents, Charles earned the nickname “Chicken Foot Charlie” due to his distinctive hammered toe, a feature he carried with pride. His early passion for art blossomed during his incarceration, where he mastered multiple art forms, including drawing, charcoal
painting, self-portrait sketches, and soap sculpting. Charles’ artistic skills drew the admiration of prison guards, wardens, politicians, and even a famous boxer who supported and invested in his work. His talent opened doors and garnered respect far beyond the prison walls. After his release, Charles channeled his artistic energy into founding Skid-row Productions. He expanded his work through this company and built relationships with various organizations, including the Martin Luther King Complex, various art shows, and corporations across Ohio and
beyond. Charles leaves behind a legacy of creativity, resilience, and transformation. He will be dearly missed, but his memory and influence will live on through the lives he touched.
